First District Supervisor John Leopold

John Leopold was elected to the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors in November 2008 and was chosen by his colleagues to serve as Chair of the Board for 2012. He was reelected by voters in 2012 for another four year term. He represents the First District, which includes Live Oak, Soquel, the Summit area, Santa Cruz Gardens and Carbonera, and part of Capitola. John previously served on the Cabrillo College Governing Board for eight years, leading the effort to pass a bond for the college in 2004.

Over the course of his career, John raised millions of dollars for UC Santa Cruz as the Development Director for the Division of Social Sciences and served as Executive Director of the Santa Cruz AIDS Project. While Associate Director of Working Partnerships, John helped design the Children's Health Initiative, which provides health insurance coverage for nearly 10,000 local children.

John lives in Live Oak with his wife, Teresa, and his two daughters, Rose and Ana.
