The Trabing Fire in Santa Cruz County continues to burn along Highway 1 in the Larkin Valley area of Santa Cruz County. As of 7:30 PM, several separate fires consisting of a total of 300-500 acres burn within an area of 1,000 acres. 9 structures have burned; possibly more. The percentage of containment is unknown. The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors have proclaimed the existence of a local emergency.

Evacuations:
2,000 residents from the Larkin Valley and Buena Vista areas have received mandatory evacuation orders within an area bordered by Highway 1, Airport Boulevard and Freedom Boulevard. The Sheriff’s Office has evacuated all of Trabing Road south to Larkin Valley and Larkin Valley Road from Old Adobe north to Mar Monte. Manfre Road from Buena Vista to Larkin Valley Road (both sides, including Lucerne, Eucalyptus, Locarno, Geneva and Zurich) and Calabasas Road from White Road to Freedom Boulevard.

Shelter:
The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center at the Aptos High School gym located at 100 Mariner Way. An evacuation center and overnight shelter is located at Lakeview Middle School at 2350 East Lake Avenue.

Animals:
Horses located north of the fire are being sent to the Showgrounds at Grahm Hill Road and Sims Road. Horses located south of the fire are being sent to the County Fairgrounds. Animal Services is providing assistance to residents who have received mandatory orders to evacuate their homes and need assistance removing pets. Call 454-7303 and select prompt 2.
