Cuong Nguyen, Santa Cruz County’s Director of Information Services has been awarded the distinguished Visionary Award for Information Technology Leadership by the California Counties Information Services Directors Association (CCISDA).

The CCISDA Innovation Awards are held each year to recognize County Information Technology (IT) leaders for their vision, excellence in IT management, and for their contribution to county government and their communities. The Visionary Award is presented to Mr. Nguyen because of his vision of government made more accessible, more efficient, more open and more accountable through the use of technology. In addition, Mr. Cuong was selected for this honor because of his leadership in inter-governmental cooperative efforts.

Mr. Nguyen was appointed the Director of the Santa Cruz County Information Services Department in February 2003. The Information Services Department provides centralized automation, telephone, printing and other support services to County departments to assist them with improving productivity and public services. The department is also responsible for managing the County’s local and wide-area networks and operates and supports a broad range of data processing applications for County departments, including public safety applications which require 24 hour seven days per week reliability. Mr. Nguyen is responsible for a $12 million budget and oversees approximately 70 employees.

CCSID will present Mr. Nguyen this award on November 29th, at the annual conference of the California State Association of Counties in San Jose. More information on CCISDA and the award program can be found at www.ccisda.org.
