Cultural Competency

By June 2023, Personnel will provide unconscious bias training to 90% of County staff and elected officials, promoting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.

Analyze results of the 2021 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion employee survey. Implement unconscious bias training via Santa Cruz County Learns (SCCL) in support of the Board of Supervisors' Declaration of Racism as a Public Health Crisis. Encourage employee training on cultural competence, including respecting cultural differences in the workplace, emotional intelligence, and conflict resolution. Seek feedback from Equal Employment Opportunity-related County Commissions on best practices for attracting applicants and retaining employees, including women, people of color, individuals with disabilities, and LGBTQ+.
