Youth Diversions

By June 2024, Probation will increase diversions for Hispanic/Latino youth by 20 percent, reducing the disparate rate of juvenile justice system engagement for youth of color.

Meet with diversion partners to identify strategies to strengthen the work flow and prioritize diversion referrals for youth of color to the various diversion pathways. Increase capacity in the Pretrial Unit to focus on diversion for youth of color. Meet with the District Attorney's Office to collaborate on analyzing data for youth of color who are referred to the Student Attendance Review Board (SARB) in an effort to move "upstream" in a prevention effort to support youth and family of color from entering the delinquency system. Meet with the Sheriff and North County Law Enforcement Partners to assess their diversion process in an effort to work "upstream" and have diversion referrals identified early on and be diverted prior to being referred to probation.
