Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today proclaimed a state of emergency in Santa Cruz County as a result of the Martin Fire.

MARTIN FIRE UPDATE: As of 4:15 P.M. CAL Fire reports that approximately 700 to 900 acres continue to burn. Approximately 1,700 residents have been contacted for mandatory evacuation.

SHELTER: The Red Cross shelter has been relocated from San Lorenzo Valley Middle School to Scotts Valley Middle School at 8 Bean Creek Road, near the intersection of Bean Creek Road and Scotts Valley Drive. The new Scotts Valley Middle School shelter will be operational at 5:00 pm. today and will provide food, cots, counseling and assessment/referral services.

ANIMALS: For assistance with the evacuation of pets left behind due to evacuation orders, call Animal Services at 454-7303 (corrected phone number). Evacuated livestock have been housed at the Graham Hill Showgrounds.

VOLUNTEERING TO ASSIST: The Volunteer Centers of Santa Cruz County are pre-registering individuals who are interested in providing volunteer support in response to the fire. Individuals can register by calling 831-427-5070 or going to www.scvolunteercenter.org.
