About the Commission

The Santa Cruz County (CA) Children and Youth Commission advocates for the needs of children, youth and families by informing and advising the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors, as well as other local, state and national bodies. The Commission:

  • Informs and advises the Board of Supervisors on issues relating to children, youth and families.
  • Serves as a public forum for children, youth and family issues.
  • Advocates for the needs of children, youth and families.
  • Monitors and responds to local, state and national issues concerning children, youth and families.
  • Encourages coordination of public and private efforts to develop, maintain and improve quality programs and services for children, youth and families.

The Commission's Policy Statement

The Children and Youth Commission developed the Santa Cruz County Policy on Children, Youth and Families. The policy, adopted by the Board of Supervisors, provides a foundation for developing specific actions to help the community achieve the highest level of well-being for its children, youth and families. It is based on the premise that all of society benefits when children and their families have quality health care, education, housing, transportation, child care and employment opportunities. The policy outlines Santa Cruz County's commitment of equal opportunity and respect for all of the county's children and their families.
