Searching Records

Recorded Documents and Maps are Public Records available for public viewing. Although almost all records are on microfilm, some can be found in the old bound books. The more recent documents, recorded after 1997, have also been digitized or scanned. All recorded documents are indexed by the names of the principal parties. To locate a document, the name of at least one party and the approximate year of recording is required.

Click here to search the online index. Images are not yet available for viewing online.

The index for those documents recorded from 1978 to current are on the computer. From 1977 back to 1850 the indices are in handwritten volumes. There is a cumulative map index which includes subdivision, parcel maps, surveys and assessment districts. There is no charge for customers to search the indices or view the documents in the film file or the online digitized documents. You may search records at the office of the County Recorder, Monday through Friday, 8am-4pm. We are located at 701 Ocean St., Room 230, Santa Cruz, CA 95060.
